Things I was excited about: Google Offers. Things that let me down: Google Offers. Google Offers is a new app from Google that lets you see all the local deals in your area. Obviously this is Google’s big foray into the whole local deals, Groupon, Living Social arena. It is still considered a Beta, so I won’t judge it too harshly.
Google Offers is not connected with any other deal network, so this means that there aren’t a ton of offers to be had. More importantly, the app as actually limited to just a few cities at this point. Business can create new offers by heading over to the new Google Offer’s page and the only one I saw up at this point was a lame-o $25 for $15 deal at the often overpriced REI.
One neat thing with Google Offers though is that it’s set up to be redeemable without having to actually print off a coupon — you merely show that business your purchased offer on your phone. We’re still not 100% sure if this means that business will actually scan your phone or not but it is a more convenient way to redeem your coupons.
Google Offers is no Groupon or Living Social at this point but, just like everything else Google does, it’s easy to see how it could quickly grow.
